A software development engineer is required by the ECMBU (Enterprise and Commercial Management Business Unit) development engineering team within NMTG.

There is immediate need for a development engineer for the Cisco Unified Communications Management Suite of products. Products include Cisco Unified Operations Manager, Service Monitor, Service Statistics Manager and Provisioning Manager.

Selected candidate will be part of a team of engineers involved in development of Network management products for the Unified communications suite of products. Job may include any or all of following list of responsibilities: - Independently come up with ideas, and solutions to enhance the product & solution offering. Drive products with innovative ideas towards new technologies that enhance product definition towards the next generation architecture.
- Work collaboratively with Product management, Development and test teams to define and improve product features, and roadmaps. - Should be able to apply his/her knowledge of software development processes and contribute in developing system and module functional specs, design specifications, Unit and Integration test specifications and System performance test plans. - Independently work and resolve problems found during internal testing and post product release. - Follow established procedures, processes within the program and actively participate in constantly improving the development processes. - Contribute in innovation drive and file patents, present papers in different international forums.
- Must have demonstrated excellent design and development skills in networking and network management domain (knowledge of TCP/IP, switching, routing), SNMP, CIM/XML. Should understand and analyze issues from a system view. - Must have demonstrated skills in all the following areas: - Java & JDBC, Database modeling, Web technologies like J2EE/JSP/XML/Struts. - Knowledge in IP Telephony and Voice technologies like H323/MGCP/SIP highly desirable - Possess excellent design ability using UML - Can-do attitude and a strong drive to take initiative and complete tasks. Independently deliver complex modules across teams, on time with excellent quality. - An excellent problem solver and must be able to come-up with good ideas and solutions to improve product value, quality and processes. - Self-starter and take up new initiatives and complete them with minimal support. - Must be a quick learner and should keep up-to-date with latest on technology, competitors and standards. - An excellent team player and should be flexible to work on any assigned tasks and adjust to changing business priorities and plans. - Possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written skills, and should communicate status of his/her tasks and their dependencies with rest of the team on a regular basis. - Should be able to work on multiple tasks at any given time. - Must possess very good knowledge of software development life cycle and processes and should take initiative in product and process improvements.
G10 (Software Engineer): Participate as a lead on a team of 3-8 members through all phases of product development. Overall project lead of entire product/major component of product, or an initiative. Typically requires BSEE/CS combined with 10-14+ yrs related experience, or MSEE/CS combined with 8-14+ years of related experience. Responsibilities may include any of the following: Development planning • Act as subject matter expert for key technologies, i.e. become the domain expert for their products. • Represent Development Team throughout product planning phase. • Work with test to ensure testability where possible. • Responsible for overall software design. • Estimate and validate development effort for entire project. • Write and review development documentation (strategy, development cases, etc.). • Drive Development Engineering issues throughout the EC process. • Propose task assignments for members of team. • Accountable for Development Team deliverables. • Anticipate development risks, issues and dependencies for the entire product or the component(s) under development as well as mitigate schedule issues. • Work with TMEs, SEs and customers to understand how applications are deployed. • Ensure lessons learned on released products are brought back into the application in future development plans and functional specs. Development execution (lead) • Track and report on product progress. • Design and Architect critical modules • Execute end-to-end development strategy. • Development for one or more major areas of the product. • Demonstrate the ability to identify, diagnose, and propose solutions for complex product requirements and issues. • Lead product bug scrubs, determining priorities and advocating quality. • Follow-up product issues through to resolution. • Champion new initiatives to improve development process and overall product quality. • Champion productivity teamwork and collaboration. • Coordinate and/or lead cross-team efforts.
